Sirens call Greeks into porn industry

A Siren (in Greek Sirina written Σειρήνα) is a dangerous mermaid-like creature, portrayed as a seductress who, in mythology, lured nearby sailors with their enchanting music and voices to shipwreck on the rocky coast of their island.

Here’s one of those small news items that gives you an idea of how the crisis is making our society shipwrecking on the rocky coast of the troika’s island. Yesterday’s Eleftheros Tipos newspaper published a story according to which there is an increase of people applying for a job with Greek porn industry leader Sirina Productions (owned by Dimitris Sirinakis).

During the past year, around 2.500 CVs have been sent to the company by candidates who wish to participate in their movies, due to the crisis. They are people who have been unemployed for a long period of time and among them one can find public servants, students and even people who have created their own families.

According to the company, most of the applicants explain in the application form that the reason they applied for the job is their great need for cash. A representative for Sirina Productions told Eleftheros Typos that about 80%-90% of the applicants are now Greek while, before 2010, the majority were foreigners.

"2.500 CVs in order to become porn stars" says the title at the bottom-left box (Eleftheros Tipos 11/12/2011)

For those interested, the newspaper went as far as to give its readers an idea of how much money a porn star with Sirina Productions could earn. Salaries begin from 1.000 euros per scene and can reach 3.000-4.000 euros if the protagonist is a well-known person. The producers also explained that they usually conduct an oral interview with the candidates and they later check their anatomical characteristics. If the applicant passes these two steps they proceed to medical exams in order to verify that they are absolutely healthy.

  2. greek chicks are not very pretty or hot though, so i wonder if you can sell greek porn abroad or is it just produced for the domestic market.
things would come full circle if some of these porn films would be watched by some german ecb bankers etc. who devised the austerity plans that pushed these very same greek women into poverty.

    • Much as I hate the exploitation of women, I would really question the view that Greek women are not pretty or “hot”. They are amongst the most beautiful women in the world. But I guess someone calling women chicks has a pretty skewed view of beauty to start off with. Have a look at the translation of the word Malakkas.

  7. Of course a Greek would say Greek women “are among the most beautiful in the world”. It is one of those issues a macho culture will never allow any reality to seep into, only chest-beating, and Greece along with Spain, Italy, and its Balkan neighbors, is one of those macho countries that it is useless to talk to if you want an honest answer.

Another example is their financial crisis, coming from borrowing money from Germany in order to have a Germanic living standard, something way above their league. Greeks in forums online will claim that the crisis is the result of “capitalists”. Apparently “capitalists” have somehow forced the socialists to bribe voters with easy money, and forced the conservatives to follow in the same path in order to have a chance of winning elections. Greedy socialist voters. Worse, greedy socialist macho voters, who will never agree they are wrong about anything. Europe will do well not to listen.

  8. Carpenter. Sorry to disappoint you but I’m not Greek, but British, and not particularly macho, but I live and work here. I was just pointing out the beauty of Greek women. It is terrible in a country of strong family values where very few women in the past have become sex workers that now because of the economic situation they are. I’m sure you would agree.

As for your other points, I suggest you look at my blog (greekcorrespondence.wordpress.com) for a more reasoned and thoughtful discussion.

Oh and do look up the translation go Malawians to….
